Mustang Celebrates School Board Recognition Month

(Mustang, Oklahoma – January 03, 2022) – Mustang Public Schools will join school districts throughout the United States to celebrate January as School Board Recognition Month, Superintendent Charles Bradley announced on Monday.

“Our school board members shoulder critical responsibilities and make difficult choices for our district, and this year has proven this more so than any before it. Their goal is always focused on the future success of the children in our district,” Bradley said.  “Celebrating School Board Recognition Month is one way to say thank you for all they do.”  Director of Communications Kirk Wilson echoed this by stating that, “we don’t always recognize the dedication and hard work of these public servants elected to represent us and the interest of our children. The pandemic has made it even harder, but we invite our community to take a moment and drop them a line of thanks to let them know that you appreciate what they do for our students and community.”  Correspondence may be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to the MPS School Board at 12400 SW 15th ST, Yukon, OK  73099.

As citizen leaders, individual school board members face complex and demanding challenges. Yet few people fully understand the scope and far-reaching implications of board members’ responsibilities. School board members must develop policies and make decisions on complex educational and social issues impacting the entire community. In Mustang Public Schoolsthey bear responsibility for an annual budget of over $150 million, over 13,000 students, over 1500 employees and 20, and growing, facilities.  Their job is to establish a vision for the education program, design a structure to achieve that vision, ensure schools are accountable to the community and strongly advocate continuous improvement in student learning. Board members contribute hundreds and hundreds of hours each year leading their districts. Whether it be crafting policies, hiring top-notch administrators, listening to staff and student concerns or recognizing outstanding programs, board members always keep their eyes on the goal of student achievement.  The time spent in board meetings represents just a small fraction of the hours school board members spend leading their districts. They also work hard at seminars and training sessions to keep abreast of the latest trends in educational leadership, are deeply involved in community activities and spend many hours in the schools and at extracurricular events. Their love for learning, and concern and caring for students, staff and community, drives board members’ desire to lead so students can achieve.

“It’s more important than ever before that communities support public education so that today’s students are prepared to be productive citizens and the leaders of tomorrow,” Superintendent Bradley continued.  “Please take a moment and tell school board members ‘thanks for caring about our children and giving so much to our community.’ Let them know we support them and that their dedicated service is recognized and truly appreciated.”
