As you know, the impacts of the pandemic have been far reaching and the added stressors for everyone have been immense. In addition to what all of us have experienced and are feeling, for educators, the impact of substitute/staffing shortages that require staff to cover classes/duties and lose valuable planning time has significantly impacted the amount of time that teachers and staff have had available to prepare for your children.
Time is one of our most valuable resources, and so, as some of you may have heard, the MPS School Board voted on Monday night to amend our 2021-22 calendar to include the addition of four (4) Resource Days. These days will not lengthen the school year (barring extreme inclement weather) as they are simply a reallocation of our banked time. In fact, for students, the year will be shortened by one (1) day from May 20, 2022 to May 19, 2022! For staff, these days will serve as time to catch up and better prepare for educating your children. For students, this will be a time to catch up, as no Distance Learning will occur on these Resource Days. To summarize, the following dates have been designated Resource Days in which no students will attend school:

We know that changes to the school calendar are deeply impactful to our families, and do not take that lightly. After discussions with staff and administration, “time” was by far the biggest need identified, and the Board took this action to provide this additional time for everyone. I would like to thank them for their leadership and willingness to hear and support our staff. I would also like to personally thank each of you for your continued support of MPS; I wholeheartedly believe that we are better together and that there is nothing our community cannot do when we work together.
