a school photo gallery has been created so that everyone who visits our school
website can see what a wonderful job they did!  Please be sure to visit the 5th Grade Indian Shelter Photo Gallery to see all of the awesome shelters!

Students at Centennial Elementary recently celebrated Red Ribbon Week.  One of the many traditions of this special week is for students to launch balloons that have special messages attached which encourages others to be DRUG FREE.  The balloon message also identifies the school and grade level along with their mailing address.  The students send the balloons with the hope that whoever finds them will write back and let them know that their message was received.  This year our first graders received a very special response.

At a recent school assembly First Grade Teacher, Teresa Fletcher, read a letter that was received addressed to "Centennial Elementary First Graders."  It was from a 13 year old girl that lived in Melissa, Texas (a small town about 45 minutes from Dallas).  The sweet girl went on to describe her life as a 7th grader and how her school had celebrated Red Ribbon Week.  She said that the First Grader's balloons arrived in her backyard about 3:00am on Halloween.  She woke up to her dogs barking and went outside to find the balloons. She said the balloons traveled about 180 miles.

"I was excited to find your message Saturday morning.
I feel lucky to be the one to have found it!  I support
being drug free.  I know drugs are bad and can mess up
your life.  I think what you did with the balloons and the
note was really cool!  I plan to tell my principal about your
great idea.  Study hard, read a lot, stay safe and stay
                      DRUG FREE!"

Teachers and students released the balloons towards the North.  Everyone was surprised and excited to find out that they had landed South of Oklahoma in a small town named Melissa, Texas.  How wonderful it was to receive such an encouraging response from this friendly teenage girl.  We are all very thankful she took the time to write to our First Graders to let them know she supported their DRUG FREE message!
