Fourth Grade Teachers
Max Fletcher, Rachael Province, Cyndi Barnes, Carol Smith, and Justin Marschall


Mrs. Smith's English Class -
The second 9 weeks will be spent writing about the election, reading and writing our own Indian myths, and writing stories about the Pilgrims.  We will
also do some memory work.   Nouns and punctuation marks will be our focus in grammar.

Mr. Fletcher's Math Class - During the second 9 weeks the following objectives will be our main focus:  1) Students will need to discover, describe, and create a variety of patterns using tables, graphs, rules and models. 2) Be able to estimate and find the product 2 and 3 digit numbers to solve application problems.  Understand division concepts such as:  fluency with basic division facts and fact families, estimate to find the quotient with a 1 division divisor and a 2 digit dividend to solve problems.  3) Be able to solve problems involving money, time, and temperature (elapsed time).  4) Be able to determine perimeter and area.  5) IMPORTANT-
Know multiplication facts 0 thru 12.


Mrs. Barnes' Reading Class - In Reading class during the second nine weeks we are reading "Lewis and Clark and Me: A Dog's Tale."  After we finish, we are going to start reading "Charlotte's Web."  Every Wednesday I am planning to work on fluency.  All students should still be reading 100 minutes a week and working toward their AR point goal and average.

Mr. Marschall's Science Class - In the second nine weeks our focus will be on animals and their various life cycles.  Then we will move on to earth and space.  Throughout these units we will explore many hands on activities.  Be on the look out for your students flash cards, they will be a major part of studying for their tests.

Ms. Province's Social Studies Class -
 During the second nine weeks, we will be testing over the location of states and identifying those state’s capitals each Friday.  Each week six states will be added until all 50 have been completed.  Your child will receive a practice test
on the Monday of each testing week that will look exactly like the test they will be taking on Friday.  There will also be practice tests on my web page that you can print out.  The flash- cards for the first five tests are in their binder and they are color coded.  The first six tests
will be in the following order:

Orange flash cards: New England States November 14
Dark Blue flash cards: The Middle Atlantic States November 21
Cream/Tan flash cards: Upper Southeast States December 5
Light blue flash cards: Lower Southeast States December 12
Purple flash cards: Great Lake States December 19
(don’t have these yet) Plains States December 26

The last four tests will be after Christmas break and I will give you those dates closer to time. Thanks!
