Can you believe it’s already the 2nd 9 weeks of First Grade? We are working on
strategies in Reading to help us decode and blend words. This 9 weeks we will
continue working on short vowels and long vowels, as well as blends (broom,
flag, snow) and digraphs (cheese, thumb, whale). Our First Graders will continue
practicing the writing process (using capital letters, finger spaces after each word,
and end marks).  In Math, we will work on recognizing numbers to 50; identifying pennies and dimes;  counting by 5’s and 10’s; telling time to the hour; and
identifying fractions (1/2). We will be working on Math Facts (simple addition and subtraction fact families). Social Studies skills will include studying Holiday traditions. The students will be able to identify healthy and unhealthy food choices for our Nutrition Unit.

Thank you so much for all the reading you are doing at home with your precious child!!  We hope that you are able to see a difference in their reading abilities since the beginning of First Grade.
